Personality
Ill-tempered and persistent. When scorned, Viral will always seek out revenge. He's impatient, and dominating when he needs to be but will always hold back and bow his head to a superior. He can be cold and hard to read, sometimes comes off as a bit of a sociopath though that is not the case at all. He cares for people deep down, and he's extremely loyal to those he takes a liking too. He's highly intelligent, though in battle he has a tendency to act like a bloodthirsty lunatic. Viral is selfish in his need for revenge and power over other people, often, his judgment becomes clouded by it. He is used to giving orders, and hates when his orders are questioned.

At first, Viral had a cold, close-minded outlook of humans. Believing what most beastmen believe, that they are insects who are unfit to walk this Earth. So he killed them without mercy and without regret. His opinion has changed however due to his various encounters with Gurren Lagann. After seeing the capabilities of human's he began to question if humans really were a lower race then the beastmen, even going so far as to ask the Spiral King this. His views have changed since the first arc, but not completely. He often calls humans "monkeys", and acts rather condescending to them unless they prove themselves useful and/or threatening. Underneath his tough attitude, he does have a heart. Viral's hidden dream is to have a family, this however, will never happen because beastmen cannot reproduce sexually.

History
Viral was not born but rather created, like all beastmen by the Spiral King's cloning technologies, for the sake of controlling the human population by killing humans who are seen on the surface with large robots called Ganmen. Viral was praised heavily for his efforts in the Human Annihilation army to the point where fellow soldiers "treated him like a God". This was all stripped from him when he was defeated by Gurren Lagann, a Ganmen piloted by humans. He swore revenge for his humiliation, now consumed by the desire to defeat them for good. He worked along-side Divine General Thymilph in another attempt to crush the brigade. He was severely injured in battle, on top of that, Thymilph was killed. After that, he begged another chance to take revenge and had it granted when he was able to fight along-side Lady Adiane, who often beat him up and treated him poorly. He still saved her from being crushed to death by 'Dai-Gurren'. After battling the 'Dai-Gurren', Lady Adiane still met her demise. Washed up on shore, he cursed Gurren Lagann and promised them defeat for sure.
Viral fought another aerial battle along-side Divine General Cytomander. After leading them into the control room of Cytomander's Ganmen, 'Dai Ganten', he learned of Kamina's death, and also learned that all this time, he had been defeated by a child. He still challenged Simon to a one-on-one duel, but they were interrupted when Cytomander took Yoko hostage and demanded Viral defeat Gurren-Lagann quickly. Viral disobeyed, realizing this would not bring him the revenge and pride he would hope for from defeating Gurren-Lagann. Because of this, Cytomander requested he be executed for treason. As a last request, Viral asked the Spiral King tell him himself what humans were, and if they were really below beastmen. The Spiral King took Viral into another room and granted him immortality. During the battle between the Spiral King and Gurren-Lagann, the Spiral king told Viral he did not give him the power of immortality to benefit him. But instead, gave it to him so that he would forever be able to tell the tale of Gurren-Lagann's defeat, making the Gurren Brigade into an example of what happens when humans try to overthrow the Spiral's King.
After the Spiral King is defeated, Viral's whereabouts are unknown for seven years until he is found causing a riot in his Ganmen 'Enkidudu' demanding to fight Simon. Instead of being met with Simon, he is met by Gimmy and Darry who defeat him together. He is taken into custody, and when questioned by Simon as to why he still persists even when the war is long over, he says it's to protect the humans who chose t live underground. Who, unbeknownst to Simon are being forced out of their homes. Viral is arrested and from there, wakes up in Nihil.
